Over at OKC, I think it's important to look at how someone answers the quiz questions about poly. Some poly people don't come out and state they are poly in their profiles but they do want other polyfolk to find them, so they reveal themselves in the answers to those poly questions.

Best advice we can give is to hang out where you normally do. When we first met our life partner Amanda she was just looking for a friend, but it quickly turned serious between the male half and now its serious for Amanda and the female half as well.

What worked for us is to stop really looking for someone. Usually when you stop looking is when the person of your dreams ends up in your lap! Also I've seen a lot of people go into the whole dating scene with expectations (see chasing the unicorn) or very specific requirements for their partner which its good to have standards just be sure those standards arent eliminating potential partners.

"As for where to meet poly people, if by some chance you are interested in anything alternative like Renaissance fairs, goth culture, sci-fi conventions, indie music, bdsm, or any small fringe group, you will be more likely to meet people who have at least heard of poly and are accepting of it."

Even if it's not an "alternative" type group, if there's a club or something in your area that does something you're interested in, you can always join that group and it just gives you a way to get out there and meet people. If you meet someone on a platonic level and get to talking about poly, then they can decide how they feel about it without any "pressure to agree." Then if they do decide poly doesn't bother them too much, and some kind of romantic connection subsequently develops, you'll already have "had the poly conversation" with them.
Love means never having to say, "Put down that meat cleaver!"
