It's all anyone knows.
This site is just the latest in a long line of businesses that make their money from vice and so called sin. Tobacco, alcohol, fast cars, porn, potato chips, chocolate ice cream, brothels, name it. You provide the $$$, we provide the vice.
Affairs R'Us is no different. They're fulfilling a demand...and probably making money hand over fist while they're at it. Why should they loose any sleep with the matress they can afford with that kind of money?
The people using the services...they probably aren't the pigs buying children in the back alleys of thailand. (If someone is going to resort to dropping a 20 on a streetwalker down the block any night of the week, they're hardly going to bother with $250 online for a 3 month wait list)
With that kind of user base??? It's probably one of your neighbors...a coworker. Maybe a close friend or family member. Probably someone you wouldn't think.
As for why the demand?? It's all anyone knows! There's already been annicdotes shared on this thread about parents who will hear about cheating and say "there there, I understand"...but mention that you're poly and explain how everyone knows who's sleeping with whom, and their heads go exorcist and start spinning 360!
Everything is based on the monogamous, ever lasting 2 person marriage ideal...and daytime soaps have been exploiting that and the 'monotony' factor for decades! My mother has been watching Y&R for 30 years! No marriage on that show lasts longer than 2 seasons...because they need to create drama, ratings, and free up characters for someone else to marry next season...wash, rinse, repeat, ad nausium.
I'm not going to say the media is the end all be all of this, but there is something to be said for role models...and the media has a way of portraying role models to those who might not have access to them otherwise. It was a big deal when I was a kid when the first divorced/remarried family was shown on TV...there's the end of society as we know it. Probably echoed the sentiments of many when "Guess Who's Coming to Dinner" came out. It took almost 20 years for the GL part of the GLBT community to start getting the same exposure.
There's a lot of ranting I could carry on with...but it's starting to get less coherant... ping...your turn...anyone..anyone...Bueller?
