selling cheating!!!

It's all anyone knows.

This site is just the latest in a long line of businesses that make their money from vice and so called sin. Tobacco, alcohol, fast cars, porn, potato chips, chocolate ice cream, brothels, name it. You provide the $$$, we provide the vice.

Affairs R'Us is no different. They're fulfilling a demand...and probably making money hand over fist while they're at it. Why should they loose any sleep with the matress they can afford with that kind of money?

The people using the services...they probably aren't the pigs buying children in the back alleys of thailand. (If someone is going to resort to dropping a 20 on a streetwalker down the block any night of the week, they're hardly going to bother with $250 online for a 3 month wait list)
With that kind of user base??? It's probably one of your neighbors...a coworker. Maybe a close friend or family member. Probably someone you wouldn't think.

As for why the demand?? It's all anyone knows! There's already been annicdotes shared on this thread about parents who will hear about cheating and say "there there, I understand"...but mention that you're poly and explain how everyone knows who's sleeping with whom, and their heads go exorcist and start spinning 360!

Everything is based on the monogamous, ever lasting 2 person marriage ideal...and daytime soaps have been exploiting that and the 'monotony' factor for decades! My mother has been watching Y&R for 30 years! No marriage on that show lasts longer than 2 seasons...because they need to create drama, ratings, and free up characters for someone else to marry next season...wash, rinse, repeat, ad nausium.

I'm not going to say the media is the end all be all of this, but there is something to be said for role models...and the media has a way of portraying role models to those who might not have access to them otherwise. It was a big deal when I was a kid when the first divorced/remarried family was shown on TV...there's the end of society as we know it. Probably echoed the sentiments of many when "Guess Who's Coming to Dinner" came out. It took almost 20 years for the GL part of the GLBT community to start getting the same exposure.

There's a lot of ranting I could carry on with...but it's starting to get less coherant... ping...your turn...anyone..anyone...Bueller?

To me its a prime example of the failure of capitalism to stay committed to our best interests. Money and greed prevail. It feeds the propaganda that makes us more reliant on the machine that feeds us. It keeps us further from being connected to ourselves and others.

Check out "Ashley Madison on the view!" see how he talks? As if he was selling carpet cleaning! We have come to recognize that way of talking as "we should do it because this is how I am talked to when I should consume a product." I for one see it as a "I'm staying clear of this" because that voice means you are selling me something.

Yep. From unhealthy foods to unhealthy relationships, the modern capitalist system seems to be at odds with the well being of our society.

I have experienced a lot of consequences in my life; enough to know who I am in a way I never have before and I am no longer a boy in a man's clothes. I have lost what most would define as "everything". I have no excuse to repeat mistakes I made in the past. No excuse…full fucking stop.

Amen, brother, amen.

I look back and see utter cluelessness on my part. I never had a functional male role model in my family and had no good example to follow. That meant a lot of trial and error, with the errors providing lots of instruction on what not to do.

Yes...because societies under the boot of communism or religious totalitarianism are the very image of health and well being. </sarcasm>

Not liking capitalism doesn't equal liking communism. They're both pretty unsustainable economic systems. :)

I just googled this website on my phone and realized that the first search result for polyamory was Ashley Madison! Promoting finding poly relationships through them!!!

Why is this following me today!! Make it stop!

Now *that* sucks!!

Porn and chocolate ice cream are virtues!

As distasteful as that site seems to me, I've heard of worse.

There's a site where attractive women make 'arrangements' or 'contracts' with rich men. Yay for the thin line between sugar daddy and sex client?

It's very disappointing to here such a site being linked to polyamory. :/

That's actually not "worse" if everyone's being open and honest about it (which granted, they probably are not). But it's not the theme itself, it's the way that they present it that makes it "better" or "worse" (for lack of more specific terminology).

I guess it depends how you look at it.

It really made me quite sad because one of the girls who was interviewed for the documentary on it (she used the site to pick up sugar daddies) said that she wouldn't date someone who didn't have a lot of money.

I can't imagine that way of life ever being fulfilling.

At least with an affair it has room to grow, because you may love the person and end up leaving for them, but with that it's just about greed and lust - I'm sure plenty of affairs can be about that too. But anyway, that's just my opinion.

In my opinion and experience there is never room to "grow" in and affair.... it's cheating, fair and square. It leaves a person with no integrity or dignity. Full stop. That is not growth. That IS a growth, of the large ugly kind, right on your forehead that says, "I am too weak to face up to my fears and to take my life into my own hands." It is a growth that says, "I can't live up to my responsibility, that I would rather hurt innocent people in the mess i have created and in my selfish way than be an advocate for their best interest and mine."

Sorry, my friend.... you are so wrong and really need to check your values and beliefs, .....in my opinion.

Hmm, you make a good point.

I guess maybe I'm trying to accept the rationalisation that my mother used in having an affair with her boyfriend for 2 years before he left his wife. I spent a lot of time counselling her about it (pretty unhealthy, I know) but it's hard to condemn people you love for their choices just because they're against your beliefs.

It was a pretty strange situation, anyway. But you're right; it's never right to lie.

EDIT: Also, good things can come out of bad. I don't recommend it but it's true for me that sometimes I have to experience what I don't want to do/be like before I can recognise how I do want to be and act differently in future. I guess people can grow out of selling themselves too. And by grow out of, I mean, grow to understand that it's not something they want to continue and change their way of acting.

Sorry for not being very clear.
