Default Keeping a journal.

I have decided to start keeping a journal as my wife and I move towards opening our marriage. I have fears, concerns, questions, and of course emotions. I also have in person communication issues that can be problematic when discussing something as sensitive as this. So I started a journal to relate all of this to my wife in the hopes of seeing progress in overcoming the fears and negative emotions I currently have. I was wondering if anyone else does this and what has the outcome been?

I have a journal here, under the journal and blogs section. It's been helpful to me to have other poly people give advice from time to time. It has also been good for me - to look back sometimes and see how far I've come!

Thank you for the reply. I will have to take a look at your journal. It never occurred to me to post in here, thanks for the tip!

Yeah, the blog section here is great as one occasionally gets supportive comments, but overall it's there for processing/telling your story.

Haha! Not sure if you want to start by tackling mine. I am a little wordy. 🤣

It's also great to have a private journal for your vents. Sometimes it's tempting to write things on the forum which you really shouldn't.

I've had a journal for years - it's now about a 15 cm high stack of A5 notebooks (my handwriting is not small). I started it when I got depressed and needed to dump my emotions somewhere. So it's not so much a daily journal, but a place where I occasionally unload. It's great to gain some clarity. I used it a lot, nowadays I don't write that much anymore - I write here, I meditate, and I think I've kind of learned to follow my thought better even without the writing process by keeping the journal. It's a great idea overall.

I can definitely see where having a place to vent outside of the forums.

I've tried to keep a personal private journal but the reality is I am just to lazy to sit down and write it. I started a blog here and barely ever get to that.

Hi Strongbad456,

I hope you'll find it rewarding to keep a journal, you can keep one here if you want, in Life stories and blogs. If you are looking for advice, you can post in Poly Relationships Corner, where there is always a lot of activity. Good luck!

Sincerely,
Kevin T.

I decided the day we opened up our marriage to keep a private journal specifically for this. I have a terrible memory now days, plus I'm a big list maker and like cataloging info so I keep notes on who I meet. Birthdays, family, favorite food, favorite color, etc...

Now we've only had our marriage open for a week but I'm a busy guy I guess I also want something I can look back on and see mistakes I've made, what has worked for me.
