True Blood

A reoccurring girlfriend (who got me into Game of Thrones) and a former coworker I'm interested in are both into True Blood. Is it worth binging on or should I start questioning my tastes in women?

Game of thrones is awesome..

I am.. hit of miss on true blood. I wish bill and sookie would just drop dead and leave the rest of the show to continue. I dislike both characters quite a bit.

Pretty much the only tv I watch is HBO/Showtime. I have binged almost every show on there, but True blood has been the one I have been most "meh" about.. It has some amazingly hot sex scenes (seriously it could be softcore porn sometimes), It has some interesting twists and plots.. It has always had a tonne of potential... untill bill or sookie talk... he's beyond annoying and shes dumb as shit and whiney *groan*...

Everyone I know is into it, so never question your interest in someone due to the shows they watch :p..

We've watched quite a bit of "True Blood" - I really like some parts and am "meh" on others (The werewolf guy is just SO HOT though...whew!)

There is one scene where I just totally want to take Sookie aside - explain poly to her and say - "There's no reason you can't be with BOTH you idiot!"

Took me six episodes to recognize the cop as Larry from Newhart. And yes, Sooki is a horrible lead character. Scott Bakula on Enterprise level bad.

Lol i was thinking the exact same thing and i've only been exposed to this vicariously. At least Lost killed most of them off before they got so annoying i'd cut my eyes out. Unfortunately, i was only born with two eyes...

I'm hopelessly addicted to True Blood. While I too have grown weary of Sookie and Bill I'm absolutely crazy about Eric and Pam. Both those just drip sex appeal to me.

Okay, finished season 1. Getting through it.

Strangely enough my biggest annoyance is how often they say 'Vampire.' I guess I'm kind of spoiled by Walking Dead which hardly ever if at all says 'Zombies.' I understand it's because zombies can't speak up for themselves and state how offended they are by the term 'walkers' the way vampires would be able to. Biggest one-off annoyance: Sookie cleaning up the blood in her kitchen rather than specialists.

Plus side though, the music is well selected (I ended up buying a Jace Everett album, already have most of Steve Earle's stuff and caught at least one of his songs in there). Couple of nice twists not quite plot-wise but presentation-wise.

I know I'm five years behind so I won't be adding to this thread too often, but yeah, I'll stick with the series.

Read the books-can't stomach the shows.

Not really fair. They really aren't even the same stories. I don't even mean they maim the stories.. they really are 100% different.

I have several friends that read the books and they just view the show as a different series altogether.

That's the only way you can really enjoy the shows, by looking at it as something totally different.

I have heard plenty of people complain that they are so different, but really, there would be no suspense, no surprise if they were identical. Therefore, they have to be different to keep the storyline going.

TV series are not like movies. They don't have a definitive beginning, middle, and ending. Not usually anyways.

I'm up to season 5. On a completely irrelevant tangent the restraint chair they use on Eric and Bill is the same one I use at work.

I enjoyed the television series but I have not read the books. This latest season was incredibly tough to get in to with some redeeming episodes in the middle.

Perhaps it has just run its natural course and should end but it really is a guilty pleasure of mine. ;)

Haha, I wish someone would've told her!

I don't really like Sookie or Bill either, but I love all the other characters. Luckily, the focus isn't on them as much as the story evolves. I see some of you aren't up to date on the serie, so I'll try not to spoil anything... But I was crazy about Eric until Ben came in the picture... OMG! *drools*

I'm almost caught up (S6-ep6). As a straight guy, I'm pretty confident that I'm not their target demographic. It's had a few good moments and some decent characters, but I've also found myself laughing in the wrong places more than a few times. It's well-acted camp with an HBO budget. I think the most important thing I've gotten out of it is that it gives me something to point to when a women gives me a hard time for liking pro wrestling.
