"...I sometimes I think there should be either a maturity test or a sanity test to pass before entering into poly relationships."
I read this is a thread and it got me thinking. While there's no real way to test somebody to see if they're ready for relationships, in general, and poly relationships, in particular, I think it could be useful to offer folks new to poly a list of issues that would be good to consider and/or work through to make things easier for them. The question then, becomes one of "What issues are important to work out before (or in the beginning stages) of a relationship?"

When speaking of various forms of non-monogamy...it ain't poly if you're just fucking around. While polyamory, open relationships, and swinging are all distinctly different approaches to non-monogamy, they are not mutually exlusive. Folks can, and some do, engage in more than one of them at a time--and it's all good. |
