Hi everyone,
What me? Oh OK, I've felt fairly polyamorus since my first love, but only learned it had a name when my friend gave me The Ethical Slut for my birthday. I live in England. I'm currently seeing the one chap, and for the sake of simplicity, lets call me the secondary partner. I'm feeling a renewed love for the ideals of polyamory right now and looking forward to meeting you all and contributing to this forum.
Pleased to meet you!

Greetings Dormouse,
Welcome to our forum!

It is great to have you aboard, I hope you enjoy your stay here, I'm sure you will. We have so much to read and learn! Have a look around on our various threads, and post any thoughts or questions you have.

Ethical Slut is a good book; you might also want to take a peek at Opening Up (by Tristan Taormino). Not that Polyamory.com won't give you enough study material alone ... :)

Are you planning to take on any additional partners, or pretty content as-is? I find myself pretty comfortable as a "leg of a V."

Good to have you with us.
Sincerely,
Kevin T.

hello

Hi, thanks for the welcome.
In answer to your question, I am hoping to form more connections. I'm moving about a lot and currently dont really know where I'm living, once I settle somewhere in the UK, I'll be more sociable. Lots of long distance friends gets expensive.

Well, in case it gets time to be more actively looking, check out our Dating & Friendships subforum. There are external resources I can refer you to, but I don't mean to overwhelm. :)

Hey Dormouse! Good to see other UK polys on here and that I have as many as 2 friends now! (Hi Kevin). It's shocking how fringe polyamory seems to be (and spell check has just underlined the word in red, indicating it as a non-word as it has with the English version of the word 'colour' below) but I have a warm fuzzy feeling of hope that public opinion will start to shift soon and that we can all do our little bit to help it along.
Your intro was brief! I want to know facts - times, dates, locations. I want to know what your favourite colour is and why. I want to know the last song that gave you an emotional surge. I want to know where you live, what your telephone number is. I want to know your email and bank details.
But I'm getting ahead of myself.
It occurred to me that you might be one to feel awkward in expressing yourself. If that is the case, this is me letting you know that I'm all eyes.

Ute

Ute, are you trying to get people's bank details again? ;) We can't take you anywhere ... :D

Hiya, more intro things, well!
So I'm living near Edinburgh and hoping to see some more people in the Scotland group soon. I agree it would be great if there were more people on here from the UK. Do I really need to read Opening Up? is it that good? I like Redefining Our Relationships by Wendy O Matic, heard of that? Music? Possibly for reasons connected with current affairs I felt the need to play lots of Billy Bragg this week.

Re:
"Do I really need to read Opening Up? is it that good?"

It's perty darn good, covers a lot of ground and in a level-headed way. I had not heard of Redefining Our Relationships by Wendy O Matic.

Anyways, it's good to have you with us, we do have a substantial number of UK folks, but more would be all the better.

More links for finding people:

And,

"As for where to meet poly people, if by some chance you are interested in anything alternative like Renaissance fairs, goth culture, sci-fi conventions, indie music, bdsm, or any small fringe group, you will be more likely to meet people who have at least heard of poly and are accepting of it."
-- SpaceHippieGeek, http://polyamoryonline.org/smf/index.php?topic=5412.msg57394#msg57394

And,

Even if it's not an "alternative" type group, if there's a club or something in your area that does something you're interested in, you can always join that group and it just gives you a way to get out there and meet people. If you meet someone on a platonic level and get to talking about poly, then they can decide how they feel about it without any "pressure to agree." Then if they do decide poly doesn't bother them too much, and some kind of romantic connection subsequently develops, you'll already have "had the poly conversation" with them.

Not that there's any hurry about this, there's so much to learn along the way.

Hope some of this helps!
Sincerely,
Kevin T.

Hi Dormouse
I'm also living near Edinburgh with 2 people. In general I find around here that I am considered at best an oddity! If you're living with more than one person and are not a student, people do react strangely. There doesn't seem to be a group here but if you'd like to meet for a coffee and friendly chat on the state of the world, just DM me.
