I know it has helped me, more than I could have ever imagined to go back and re-read what I was feeling at a given time (thanks for the idea by the way). Later I was able to be rational and work on some of my own stuff. Including the realization that I sabotage myself when things are going well
A suggestion for "something to do": Chronicle these texts for him with or without your own replies and/or feelings. Just a thought, because you’re right, this is his to work through.
