I'm thinking you are right, Sunnydee. I think she probably isn't poly which would indicate she is naturally.........I didn't say it
I think your suggestion is viable; in her maybe seeing if she can also have another relationship but it does come with certain risks to the OP: he may be replaced by someone who is possible more suited to her nature...which again I am not saying
